AD8232 is an integrated front-end designed for signal conditioning of cardiac bioelectrical signals for heart rate monitoring. It serves as a signal conditioning module for ECG and other bioelectrical measurement applications. The device is engineered to extract, amplify, and filter weak bioelectrical signals in the presence of noise caused by motion or remote electrode placement. Its design enables an ultra-low-power analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or embedded microcontroller to easily capture the output signal. The AD8232 incorporates a two-pole high-pass filter to suppress motion artifacts and electrode half-cell potentials. This filter is tightly integrated with the instrumentation amplifier structure, allowing single-stage high-gain and high-pass filtering, which helps save space and reduce system cost. The device uses an uncommitted operational amplifier to implement a three-pole low-pass filter that reduces additional noise. Filter cutoff frequencies can be user-selected to accommodate various application requirements. To enhance common-mode rejection of line frequencies and other unwanted interference, the AD8232 includes an amplifier for driven lead applications such as right-leg drive (RLD). It also features a fast recovery function that minimizes the long settling time typically associated with high-pass filters. In the event of a sudden signal change, such as from lead disconnection, the AD8232 automatically transitions to a higher filter cutoff frequency. This enables rapid signal recovery, allowing valid measurements to be obtained quickly once the leads are reconnected to the subject. The device is specified for reliable performance across a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, with an extended operating range from -40°C to +85°C.
