When braking, the sliding bar slides in when the trailer or trailer pushes. This activates the brakes. The sliding bar is made of steel and lubricated to glide as smoothly as possible. The coupling gaiter prevents dirt and dust from getting on the grease and thus allows the sliding rod to do its best work. Since the clutch gaiter gaiter is exposed to all weather conditions, it should be replaced well in advance to keep the overrun brake well protected. Using wrench 19, remove the bolts/nuts on the coupling and remove the coupling gaiter. Install the new coupling gaiter. This can be tied down with a tie-wrap.
