The keys have a chip inside. The chip included with this product is 48. The chip key must match the engine computer in order to start the vehicle. Professional programming is required for proper operation. This ignition switch comes with 2 keys. The chip is not pre-programmed. To complete installation, you can have a local locksmith copy the key and program the chip to match your original key. If the original key is not available, a locksmith can use a programming device connected to the OBD2 port to program the vehicle to accept the new key.
