Fruugo’s Approach to Product Safety in Europe
As the EU General Product Safety Regulation (the “GPSR”) comes into effect, we remain committed to ensuring products available for sale on our platform are safe.
Fruugo takes product safety extremely seriously. We believe that customers have the right to expect that the products they purchase are safe and authentic, and we continue to invest in people and technology to proactively remove non-compliant products and bad actors.
We require all products offered in our store to comply with Fruugo’s Retailer Terms and conditions, our policies, and all applicable laws. Fruugo takes a “compliance-by-design" approach, developing its platform to empower its third-party retailers to comply with their product safety obligations.
Fruugo has invested in and developed tools, including automated and AI-driven processes, which detect and remove unsafe or non-compliant products from its platform. This technology is supported by human resources, including a dedicated content moderation team who manage and refine our processes. Where required, we are able to take robust and swift action to keep customers safe, including removing non-compliant products and conducting product recalls.
Fruugo and the GPSR
We fully support the aims of the GPSR to protect European consumers, and consider that businesses at all levels of the supply chain should take responsibility for their obligations.
Fruugo seeks to guide and educate its third-party retailers using the platform and wherever possible, we provide helpful information to enable them to navigate the European Union’s regulatory requirements when listing products for sale online.
In accordance with our platform obligations, Fruugo prompts retailers listing on its EU stores to provide relevant product safety and compliance information, including product compliance warnings and labels and high-quality images of their products and packaging. Retailers are also required to provide the details of the product’s manufacturer and/or responsible person.
This process aims to prevent non-compliant products from being listed on the Fruugo platform in the first place, or flag them for review by our content moderation team so that listings can be blocked if compliance issues are found, or if we require additional compliance information from retailers.
Fruugo continuously monitors the products on its platform using both automated and manual methods of detection. Fruugo has a fully-functioning and effective notice and takedown procedure to manage the receipt, review, action and resolution of all emails and notices received from regulators, customers, retailers or brands received via our notice and takedown website forms. We encourage all stakeholders to bring any suspected non-compliant product listings to our attention via this system.
